• Designing Web Usability: The Practice of Simplicity by Jakob Nielsen, author of the Alertbox column, this book is a goldmine of practical advice for good site design.
• Designing for the Web This book introduces you to the Web, giving you a tutorial on setting up a web page, tips on optimizing graphics for the web, discussion of designing for different browsers, using background images and colors, and the use of site-wide navigational elements and design consistency.

Cool Sites

• Clipart.com has a vast collection of art and photos you can use for web or print design.
• Digital Blasphemy offers hi-res original 3d-rendered computer desktop wallpapers, animated windows startup screens, screen savers, tutorials on making your own 3d art, and links to some of the best computer art sites on the web.
• Blue Sky Heart Graphics, by Layne Karkruff - who did some of our templates. He's also got a collection of lovely desktop backgrounds.
• Fonthead Design makes fonts. Cool fonts. You'll notice we use a lot of them here.
